Notion rebuilds its Agents with their own computer, and a model router it says cuts costs 90%
Your move: Live now for Notion AI users; the new Auto router claims frontier-level quality at about 90% lower cost
Notion shipped a major rebuild of Notion Agents on October 19. The agents now run on a new harness with their own computer and browser, smarter context management, and a "Review for me" mode that adds safety checks before they act. Tasks can run for up to 24 hours, and chats load up to 50% faster on mobile. Alongside the rebuild, Notion introduced Auto, an upgraded model router that matches each task to a model and changes course if it gets stuck. Notion says that across more than 20 common tasks, Auto delivered results similar to Opus 5.5 and Astra at about 90% lower average cost, making credits go roughly 10 times further.
The pricing and connectivity moves are as notable as the harness. Users can now connect a ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Go plan they already pay for to their personal Notion Agent, with bring-your-own-key in private alpha for Enterprise. Notion MCP, which the company calls its fastest-growing product ever, was overhauled with memory sync live today and skills via MCP coming soon, so outside agents can use a Notion workspace as a shared brain. An AI Command Center is coming soon with per-person, per-feature and per-agent usage, spending limits and model controls, and all AI usage is being consolidated under a new credit system.
Why it matters
The aggressive move here is on cost, not capability: Notion is betting that what keeps workspace agents from daily use is the bill, and that routing plus a unified credit system makes agents cheap enough to leave running on 24-hour tasks. "Review for me" is an admission that long autonomous runs need a human checkpoint before anyone trusts them with a real workspace. The things to watch are whether Auto's frontier-parity claims hold outside Notion's own 20-task benchmark, and whether bring-your-own-key is enough to pull in enterprises that have so far kept their AI spend elsewhere.
