Replika founder Eugenia Kuyda opens Wabi, a shared personal agent, as a free public download
Your move: Free on iOS, Android and Mac with no waitlist; backed by a $20M a16z pre-seed
Wabi, the consumer agent startup founded by Replika creator Eugenia Kuyda, opened its personal agent to public download on October 19, ending an invite-only rollout that began September 28. The app is free on iOS, Android and Mac, with no waitlist. Wabi is built as a messenger: you talk to Wabi, a personal agent that acts on your behalf and builds the interface it needs in the moment, and you can add anyone in your life to any thread. Kuyda's own examples: a health thread holding a calorie tracker, a weightlifting log and her appointments; a kids thread with an activity calendar, the daily preschool menu and a Japanese-learning app for her daughter, with Wabi triaging school email while the children's father and nanny take part; and a thread with her boyfriend carrying a show recommender, a map of favorite restaurants and a daily relationship question.
The company says the agent can also build a shared family calendar from school emails, run trip countdowns, itineraries and booking, suggest alternatives when weather changes a group's plans, spot bill increases, unused subscriptions and owed credits, and help book appointments, handle returns and complete forms. Users choose which connections to grant - email, calendar, contacts, location, photos and health data - Wabi checks before actions that need approval, and connections can be disconnected at any time. The company is backed by a $20M pre-seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz; Kuyda previously founded Replika, which has 40M users, and says the idea behind Wabi goes back to the personal assistant she pitched at TechCrunch Disrupt more than a decade ago.
Why it matters
The bet here is that the consumer agent that wins is shared, not solo: an agent that sits inside your existing group threads and generates small apps - calendars, trackers, trip planners - on demand, rather than waiting in an empty chat box. It is a direct challenge to the chat-only model Kuyda herself helped pioneer with Replika. The open questions are trust and reliability: the product only works if people are comfortable granting an agent their email, calendar, location and health data inside threads with other people, and if the built-on-the-fly interfaces hold up in daily use. With a free tier, no waitlist and a founder with 40M users of consumer AI experience behind it, this one is easy to test firsthand.
